KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama)-- A study on the proposed consolidation of the national car companies, Proton Holdings Bhd and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd, has been completed.
Minister of International Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said the report would be submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for consideration.
"This (Proton-Perodua) proposal was mooted by the prime minister.
"We are now waiting to set a date to present the report to him," he told reporters at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry's (MITI) monthly gathering and innovation and quality ceremony here Monday.
Meanwhile, he said, exports of Malaysian-made products would increase to RM447.09 billion in 2011 from RM424.1 billion in 2010.
He said the ministry expected services export was expected to increase to RM106.15 billion in 2011 from RM101.1 billion this year.
Earlier, Mustapa thanked MITI secretary-general, Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat, for his services.
Abdul Rahman, who would retire on Dec 5, 2010, started his career in MITI in 1975.
An economics graduate from University of Malaya, Abdul Rahman has more than 30 years' of experience in international trade and industry.
He has served in various positions, including deputy trade commissioner in New York, director of trade in Taipei, trade commissioner and deputy permanent representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission in Bangkok.
He has also served as director of Export Promotion Bureau in Malaysia External Trade Development Corp director of industries, senior director of policy and industry services division and deputy secretary-general (industry), MITI.
Abdul Rahman has represented Malaysia in a number of international meetings, negotiations, conferences and symposiums.
He was also a panel member of the search committee of the Prime Minister's Innovation Award 2010.
